The 2024 World Service Business Conference is coming up and there are several new motions and bylaw amendments proposed to be brought before the delegates. Greater Seattle Intergroup needs all meetings in the GSI intergroup to discuss the proposals and have the GSI rep come to the March 5 GSI meeting to vote on each one. Here’s the summary of proposals.

There is a new scam where a person pretends to be interested in OA as a newcomer. They invite you to talk more about it on Zoom with them. Then they exploit the member’s 12 Step efforts by displaying inappropriate images on their screen. 

Please know that no one needs to get on Zoom to hear about OA. You can talk on the phone and leave it at that. “Let’s meet at a meeting” is good. Please warn your meetings about this latest scam.

The OA interactive online magazine on the Joy of OA Service is calling for submissions – stories, videos, audio, drawings, memes, animations, poems or other creative work on the Joy of OA Service! Details about GSI Announcements:

GSI is actively seeking Chairs for the following GSI Standing Committees (Contact chair@seattleoa.org)

    • Vice-chair
      1. Shall serve in the absence of the Chair.
      2. Shall serve as Events Coordinator for the Intergroup.
      3. Shall, in the event that the Chair is determined to be unable to discharge his/her duties and responsibilities by a majority vote of the remaining board members, assume those duties and responsibilities until the Chair notifies the Board that he/she is able to resume those duties and responsibilities. If there is a dispute between the Chair and the Board about his/her ability to resume the duties and responsibilities, the determination shall be made by the voting members of the Intergroup.
      4. Shall perform all duties as prescribed in the Intergroup policy for job descriptions.
    • Meeting Liaisons
      1. Maintains contact with all GSI groups
      2. Assures that meeting info on both GSI & WSO websites is correct.
      3. Encourages groups to send reps. to Intergroup meetings, host events, & participate in other OA events.
    • Literature
      1. Maintain an inventory of literature & pamphlets.
      2. Store & provide literature for groups/individuals when requested
      3. Bring literature to Events to sell.
    • Public Information/Professional Outreach
      1. Work with Region to host a FB page for 1-3 months
      2. Put together a speaker panel to go to high schools & colleges to share about OA
      3. Post flyers on grocery store bulletin boards
    • Podcasts & Media
      1. Works with the website Chair to update & and maintain our Podcast files on the website.
