Zoom Pests

Warning for all Zoom hosts

Zoom bombers are now able to enter the meeting using the onscreen name of someone who has attended the meeting before. So the name might look like someone you know. If someone asks for the host key, please do not give it out without first verifying their identity with Zoom video. Also please make sure you have upgraded to the latest version of zoom.

If your meeting is intruded on and you are the Host or Co-host:

Look for the security shield – At the bottom of main screen, to the left of participants list.
Suspend Participant Activities locks meeting, mutes, disables chat, etc.

Zoom will ask you to confirm
“Suspend Participants Activities” –
(I unchecked the “Report to Zoom” checkbox because I was testing.)

Remove Intruder – Hover over their name in Participants Box and the “More” button appears. | Remove person from the room.

Or Hover over the three dots in the intruders zoom box in the upper corner. | Remove.

(Sometimes the Participant’s Names jump around as the screen refreshes. If you get the wrong person, they are banned for a week.)

After Intruder is gone, everyone is muted but the Host and Co-hosts. Leave the meeting locked until the meeting is over.

Selecting the Security Shield and selecting “Unmute Themselves” will put the check mark back. This means people can unmute.

Before leaving the meeting, recheck “Rename” and “Chat”. Uncheck “Lock”, “Enable Waiting Room” and “Hide Profile Pictures.”

General Notes: Hosts and Co-hosts should be on a laptop or desktop as it is too difficult to see trouble on a phone. You can co-host as many people as you want. Hosts should stay in Preview Mode. If the meeting is large – Co-host One watches the first page and Co-host Two watches the second page. Whoever sees obvious malicious behavior should just remove the person from the room.

If you are in Gallery mode and you click on the three dots in the upper right corner, you can choose “Hide Non-Video Participants.” This can take a 5 page Zoom meeting to one page and it may be easier to manage. To get out of this view, in the Upper Corner choose the drop down menu and it will say: “Show all participants. (Once I did see a Zoom Pest with their video off who was making noise, so I am not sure if this is best.”

Tradition 5: Each group has but one primary purpose — to carry its message to the compulsive eater who still suffers. These intruders usually come late – so don’t forget to welcome strangers to your meeting.
